Hey there!
Last week I asked my masseuse what his favourite books were.
It turned out that it was The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, a book I had read a few years ago.
SO we started talking about exactly what it was about that book that had made it sprint to the front of his mind, and I realised that although I had kind of understood the book when I read it, I had not appreciated the whole of it…
Purely because I wasn't at a stage of my journey where I had been able to.
I had thought it was an enjoyable read…
And had understood some of the concepts of what Paulo Coelho had been trying to tell me but had missed the most important concept.
As we chatted about it, I got it…
I realised the real message that he had been telling us…
And I want to share that with you now.
The Alchemist is about Santiago, a young shepherd boy who has a dream about a buried treasure which leads to him embarking on a huge journey into the middle of the Sahara desert.
Along the way, he meets wise people, is ripped off, stolen from, cheated, almost dies, finds the love of his life, and ultimately discovers himself and the destination of the buried treasure.
So that is what I got the first time I read it.
SPOILER ALERT – About to reveal the twist at the end of the book.
However, there was a small piece that I missed…
At the end of the book when Santiago realises the truth about the treasure's location, it turns out that it was buried exactly where he had been when he had first dreamed about it.
Which means that all his travels, all his struggles, all those near-death experiences, had been for nothing because all he had to have done was to dig when he first had the dream and he would have found it.
Or were they???
SO this is what I believe is the real message in The Alchemist.
What we need, is already within us, but we have to do the necessary work to release it…
While it is true that we are already good enough, perfect enough and worthy enough…
It is also true that we just don't know what we need to know to be that person yet…
We haven't learned the lessons we need to, to be able to become this version of ourselves that already lives inside.
To be able to think, and act and believe what we need to, to ultimately transform into the version of us capable of having the success we desire, we need to go on a journey of discovery.
This means that no matter how much we would just like to create the business we want right now, it's not going to happen until you have earned it.
When you finally start having that success you want, you will look back to the version of you who wanted it back then, and realise that who you were at that moment, did not have the capacity to do what needed to be done.
You needed to put yourself out there, and face ridicule and rejection…
You needed to be stomped on and knocked down again and again…
You needed to keep going, even when those around you told you you were wasting your time…
So you could develop the resilience and the strength and the mindset…
And overcome the fears that were holding you back…
And then, and only then, when the journey you took that taught you what you needed to know, brought you back to yourself, could you emerge as the person you needed to be.
It's frustrating but true, that for us to BE WHO WE WANT to be, we need to go on a journey to BECOME WHO WE NEED to be.
And I think that was what Paulo Coelho was trying to tell us.
SO instead of being frustrated by the journey, be excited.
Every time you get knocked down, every time you feel despair, every time you just don't think you can keep going…and then do, is one step closer to your true destination…
The WHO you need to be.
Now, I recently recorded a guided meditation called The FUTURE YOU.
It takes you on a journey to that future version of yourself so that you can benefit from their energy and their knowledge now.
If you would like a copy of it, respond to this email and let me know and I will get a copy of it off to you.
I know you are going to love it.
